Formation of the milk fat globule membrane without participation of the plasmalemma.

چکیده
In goat mammary tissue under certain conditions perfusion fixation produces a considerable swelling of the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the appearance, in a small number of cells, of intracellular vacuoles which contain lipid globules and casein particles. The morphological evidence suggests that these vacuoles form by fusion of Golgi vesicles. By this process the characteristic structure of the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) is produced around the lipid globules without any contribution from the plasmalemma. This corroborates the earlier suggestion that normal MFG secretion involves the Golgi vesicles directly.

The mechanism of secretion of the milk fat globule.
The morphology of secretion of the fat globule is identical in goat, guinea-pig and cow. The smallest fat droplets, which are found in the basal cytoplasm of the secretory cell, have no membrane separating the lipid from the cytoplasm and no direct association with rough endoplasmic reticulum. In the apex of the cell, fat droplets have numerous peripheral vesicles, most of which appear to be de...
متن کاملButyrophilin controls milk fat globule secretion.
The molecular mechanism underlying milk fat globule secretion in mammary epithelial cells ostensibly involves the formation of complexes between plasma membrane butyrophilin and cytosolic xanthine oxidoreductase. These complexes bind adipophilin in the phospholipid monolayer of milk secretory granules, the precursors of milk fat globules, enveloping the nascent fat globules in a layer of plasma...

was apparently no significallt difference in the growth of the pups raised by either diet greup. This discrepancy might be in part explained by a hypothesis that the pups might moniter calorie contellt in milk and keep sllckling until the energy intake reaches their satisfaction. Moreover, nearly the same amounts of major milk fat globule membrane proteins MFG-E8 and blltyrophilin were shown to be

Purified plasma membrane fractions from lactating bovine mammary glands and membranes of milk fat globules from the same source were similar in distribution and fatty acid composition of phospholipids. The sphingomyelin content of the phospholipid fraction of both membranes was higher than in these fractions from other cell components, beta-carotene, a constituent characteristic of milk fat, wa...
متن کاملRe-evaluation of milk-fat globule EGF-factor VIII (MFG-E8) as an intrinsic component of the mouse milk-fat globule membrane.
In lactating mammary glands, milk fat is secreted as fat globules surrounded by a cell plasma membrane containing characteristic membrane-associated proteins. Among these, butyrophilin has been shown to be specific and intrinsic to the fat globule membrane, whereas milk-fat globule EGF-factor VIII (MFG-E8) is uncertain. We characterized in the present study MFG-E8 in milk fat globules and in th...
